🥂 ESUHK welcomes Miles Young and celebrates 25 the Anniversary 28th September 2026🎉

The English-Speaking Union Hong Kong (ESUHK) was honoured to host a Cocktail Reception to welcome Mr. Miles Young, Chairman of the English-Speaking Union of the Commonwealth and to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the ESUHK on 28th September 2026. 

Dr Leung Che-Hung, GBM, GBS, OBE, JP, patron of ESUHK commenced the evening with a welcoming message, emphasizing the importance of the English language especially in the medical profession where all technical terms are in English.

Then Mr. Miles Young introduced the mission and activities of the ESU International and the renovation and expansion of the Dartmouth House, the head quarter mansion at Mayfair, London. He credited the work of ESU in Hong Kong under the helm of the founding chairman, the late Dr. Verner Bickley and the current chair,  Mrs. Margaret Leung. 

Mrs Leung introduced guests present, Dr. Moses Mo-Chi Cheng, GBM, GBS, OBE, JP. who supported ESUHK as early as on its 10th anniversary.  Dr. Cheng, currently the Chairman of the Council of the Hang Seng University, emphasizes the importance of youth education.  Others present were the ESUHK executive board and advisors, including university professors, school principal and teachers, public speaking and drama coaches, as well as medical, law, and arts university students and secondary school students with credit in English chaperoned by their teachers. 

The reception provided a wonderful opportunity for guests to make acquaintances, exchange ideas, and reflect on ESUHK’s achievements over the past 25 years. A video on the past year’s activities was shown throughout the evening.

As ESUHK celebrates this important milestone, we also look forward to continuing our mission of promoting English Oracy for young students and the wider community.
